Modernization of the Rosebank FPSO: Insulation surveying and measurement in Dubai

Our team is currently involved in the modernization of the Petrojarl Knarr unit (to be renamed Petrojarl Rosebank) at Dubai Drydocks World. This project, managed by Aker Solutions for Altera Infrastructure, aims to prepare the FPSO for 25 years of continuous operation on the Rosebank field in the North Sea. The upgrade is designed to ensure the vessel can operate long-term without the need for additional drydocking.

Our work starts with technical documentation and site surveying in Dubai. Our insulation surveyors and site engineer are responsible for taking precise measurements and creating technical drawings of the unit. This step is essential to ensure that all later components fit the existing installation exactly, which helps avoid delays and reduces downtime during the final integration.

In the North Sea, insulation systems must handle extreme weather, including freezing temperatures and high winds. Our offshore insulation engineers and specialized personnel focus on thermal protection and preventing corrosion under insulation (CUI). By upgrading these systems, we help maintain the vessel's operational integrity and safety for its upcoming decades of service in the UK offshore sector.

Once the data collection in Dubai is complete, the project moves to the prefabrication stage at Aker Solutions’ ISO Fabrikk in Stord, Norway. Our team will support this phase by providing insulation fitters and supervisors to execute the work. Having the sameteam handle both the initial site surveying and the production stage ensures that the prefabricated parts meet the technical requirements and the project stays on schedule.

This project is a practical example of our experience in FPSO modernization and manpower supply. By providing skilled insulation engineers and technical staff across different international locations, we support the delivery of reliable infrastructure for the offshore energy industry.
