Prefabrication standards for the Rosebank FPSO at ISO Fabrikk, Aker Solutions

The modernization of the Petrojarl Rosebank FPSO has reached its next phase. Following the initial surveying in Dubai, our operations moved to Aker Solutions’ ISO Fabrikk in Stord, Norway, for the prefabrication stage. The project focuses on upgrading insulation systems to ensure the vessel’s safe and efficient operation in the demanding conditions of the North Sea, where protection against low temperatures and high winds is essential.

During this stage, our team of tinsmiths and workshop technicians manufactured specialized insulation components based on the precise technical drawings collected during the Dubai surveying phase. This direct link between measurement and production ensured that all elements were built to the exact specifications of the FPSO's existing infrastructure. By maintaining this continuity, we minimize the risk of fitment issues during the final offshore installation.

A key part of the work involved the prefabrication of removable insulation boxes compliant with the NORSOK M-004 standard. Specifically, our team produced Class IV insulation boxes designed to protect the installation from freezing, heavy rainfall, and internal condensation. These removable systems allow for easy access during future maintenance while providing a robust barrier against the North Sea’s corrosive and volatile environment.

With the prefabrication in Stord now complete, the components are being prepared for transport to the final location. The FPSO is currently in transit from Dubai to the Rosebank field, situated approximately 130 km west of the Shetland Islands. Once the vessel arrives at its destination, the final stage will begin, involving the on-site installation of the boxes to ensure the unit is fully protected for its long-term production cycle.

This phase marks the successful integration of technical documentation, expert craftsmanship, and international logistics. By combining the skills of our insulation tinsmiths with standardized NORSOK requirements, we provide the Petrojarl Rosebank with an insulation system ready for decades of offshore service. The completion of these components brings the project one step closer to full operational readiness.
